cleaning house

IMG_2262 it was time to clean up around here. the banner needed a change. the pink flower is from a bouquet john brought home to me for our 15th wedding anniversary. we celebrated in june. i'm just behind. but i love the flowers. i'll take daisies over roses any day. he knows that, too - which is why we're still married. :)

what else is new? let's see...i decided to ditch the journey to medium blog i had going. it was something i thought would be good to use as journal...to brain dump and let it all out about how frustrated i am with my weight. but...in retrospect...i don't think the internet really needs to know all that stuff. just know that it sucks to be fat, okay? don't go there if you can avoid it. and don't say the f word on your blog if your mom and aunt are avid readers. you will end up in big trouble even if you are almost forty years old.

that's all i have for now. i have some new pics i'll post this week of the kiddos. we've been busy hanging out this summer and trying to dodge the heat as best we can. have i mentioned how hot it is here lately? seriously...you don't want to get me started. you thought the cuss words were flying when i talked about my weight. i would be grounded for life! sorry mom. :)

blogging from the blackberry

I woke up this morning with a sore throat and a rumbly tummy. It's the perfect day to lie on the couch and read my new book. I added a new weblog over on the left - it's going to be my journal of sorts on my journey to smallishville. Wish me luck! img00012

i feel so y2k

i recently upgraded my little cell phone to this crazy blackberry that is all business. it's for work i tell myself. i need to be connected to get my emails/phone calls even when i'm in line at starbucks. or at sonic. or picking up kids from school. or at the waterpark. accessible and connected...that's me.

graduates

yesterday was graduation day for us. i had one graduate kindergarten and one graduate 8th grade. crazy!
Grad-tate
Grad-iain
it was a hectic day around here. i was too busy to be sad about it, which is probably a good thing. iain had to dress up for his grad night, which was pretty funny. his first time wearing a tie and he ripped the thing trying to get it on. so john had to make an emergency run to the nearest dept. store to replace the tie. the kid is taller than his parents and in this picture it looks like he's all legs. he's wearing john's docs, too. the look on tatum's face cracks me up. she kept saying "he looks so tall mom".

i'm so proud of these two. i hope they don't make me crazy over the summer. :)

summer hair

my girl got her hair cut this afternoon after school. i can't stop running my fingers through it and she can't stop bouncing around the house with it. i thought i'd be sad about losing her long (messy) hair, but i'm not at all. this cut is perfect for her. i just want to eat her.

not fair at all

Hot

this is what the excessive warnings says:

RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES CAN BE EXPECTED TODAY AND TOMORROW ACROSS THE DESERTS OF SOUTH-CENTRAL ARIZONA AS AN UNSEASONABLY STRONG HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM REMAINS OVER THE AREA. HIGH TEMPERATURES THIS AFTERNOON HAVE ALREADY REACHED 110 AT PHOENIX SKY HARBOR AIRPORT AND 114 DEGREES IN YUMA...ESTABLISHING NEW RECORDS. RECORD OR NEAR RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES CAN BE EXPECTED AGAIN ON TUESDAY.

IT WOULD BE WISE TO COMPLETE AS MUCH OUTDOOR ACTIVITY AS POSSIBLE IN THE EARLY MORNING WHEN THE SUN AND HEAT ARE LESS INTENSE. DURING PERIODS OF EXCESSIVE HEAT...INDIVIDUALS CAN SUFFER HEAT-RELATED ILLNESS WHEN THE BODY CAN NO LONGER COOL ITSELF.

IF YOU PLAN TO BE OUTSIDE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME IN THE AFTERNOON OR EARLY EVENING...STAY IN THE SHADE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AND DRINK ABUNDANT AMOUNTS OF WATER. WEAR LIGHT-COLORED AND LOOSE- FITTING CLOTHING. IF YOU WEAR A WIDE-BRIMMED HAT...YOUR HEAD AND BODY WILL BE MUCH COOLER. STOP OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES... DRINK LOTS OF WATER OR OTHER NON- ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES...AND IF POSSIBLE...SPEND MORE TIME IN AIR- CONDITIONED OR WELL-VENTILATED PLACES.

so...let the hybernating begin. crap...i hate summer.

about my mom's cancer

as i mentioned in my last post, my mom's cancer came back. two months after finishing her last round of radiation she felt another lump in her breast. the same breast that started this whole adventure. her oncologist confirmed the lump and also found another mass in her lymphnodes (again). so in a week's time she decided to have the breast removed along with the other one to be safe. she had a bi-lateral mastectomy last week. she's been home recovering and being a good little patient. the hardest part for her is sitting still and taking it easy. she's in good spirits and just wants to get this over with, can you blame her? so the next step is going through chemo and radiation (again). she's having her cancer cells researched by a firm in california who will help give her a chemo cocktail that should be specific to her. so for now we're waiting for her to recover from surgery. she should be starting her chemo in about 5 weeks if all goes well. she's not very happy about losing her hair again, but at least it's summer time and she'll be nice and cool.

so if you could say a prayer or two and keep her in your thoughts that would be super.
